It’s been a while, but we are still here! It’s crazy how the weeks and then months can pass by so quickly. Each day is a new adventure with Kennedy and I truly enjoy the days I can be home with her. That being said, I can get a little (lot) crazy about keeping her on a schedule which is great for her, but means we don’t get out a ton during the week, I was getting just a bit stir crazy. This family vacation couldn’t have come at a more perfect time.
You know on vacation the schedule and routine tends to fly out the window. I was so scared that Kennedy would lose it and wouldn’t sleep for two weeks straight, but you know what? She did just fine. And after a few days I relaxed and went with the flow. It was SO nice. In my job I tell people all the time that kids are so much more resilient than we think, why don’t I ever take my own advice? Ha! Someday I’ll listen.
Nate sells airplanes for an amazing company. He gets a demo plane to take potential customers on flights and show off the plane. They also allow him to use it for personal use here and there. He had a huge airshow that the plane needed to be at up in Wisconsin so we were able to take a big tour up the east coast eventually ending in Wisconsin for the air show. So awesome that we can take a plane for our family vacation. I still can’t get used to this!
We made several stops before Wisconsin and were able to see friends and family along the way. First we made a quick stop in Virginia to see Abby and Troy. This was a last minute surprise and so happy we were able to make it happen. Next we made our way to Saratoga Springs, NY for a wedding. This was such a fun time with Nate’s college friends. Times have changed from the late late nights to early early mornings up with the babes and it so cool to watch their friendships grow with these huge life changes.
The next stop on our summer family vacation was farther up north in the Thousand Islands, NY. Our family has spent summers up there since long before I was born. It’s such a magical place, quiet and right on the water off of the Saint Lawrence River. It was really special to take Kennedy there on her very first trip. It’s the perfect place to just slow down and relax. …and eat 50-100 s’mores!
Once we said goodbye to New York (and my mom!) we made our way to Cleveland, Ohio to see more family. We love our Ohio family and as usual we had a wonderful time with them. While there, Kennedy was able to meet her great Grandma (which was too cute) and lots of aunts uncles and cousins. Of course the time was way too short and were so sad to say goodbye.
The last stop on our summer family vacation was Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the EAA AirVenture airshow. Nate’s company, has a giant booth and it’s basically a big week long party. I was a little nervous about this part because our home for the week was an RV…shared with another guy! Haha! But it turned out ok and I think the RV had more amenities than our house! The weather was beautiful so we took lots of walks and played outside in the shade almost all day every day. It was a great wrap up to our vacation.
So far we’ve been very blessed with how good of a traveler Kennedy is. Enough that we are already planning our next family vacation.
How about you? Do you like to travel with your kids? What are your tips and tricks to make it happen?
